Of course, mention Lake Texoma to a fishing enthusiast and they'll immediately think "striper!" Texoma is famous for excellent fishing for striped bass and other species. Plenty of professional fishing guides are available to ensure a great experience whether you're a novice or a seasoned angler. Texoma is known as the "Striper Capital of the World." This lake is one of the few reservoirs in the nation where striped bass reproduce naturally. Other popular species include largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, white crappie, black crappie, channel catfish and blue catfish.

This area is an immense playground - even off the water. Two wildlife refuges, two state parks, fifty-four U.S Army Corps of Engineers - managed parks, twenty-six resorts and hundreds of campgrounds surround the lake. Texoma's newest golf course, Chickasaw Pointe, brings a whole new level of excitement to an area already known for outstanding golf.
Lake Texoma enjoys a well - deserved reputation as a major sailing lake. The expansive lake is deep, with miles of sailing shoreline dotted with plenty of great anchoring spots on sandy beaches or in secluded coves. Some of the best places are only accessible by water. The lakeside terrain varies from dramatic rocky cliffs to tree - covered slopes, adding to the sailing experience.
If you want to sail, but don't own a boat, there are several charter companies on the lake that can provide a vessel. You'll find selections ranging from 25 to 48 feet in length complete with accommodations for living or just picnicking. All you'll need to pack is your food and gear.

If you've only dreamed of sailing, you can charter a boat with an instructor to see what it's like. If you discover that this is the life for you, the charter companies offer lessons to get you started. Lessons usually consist of three days on the water or two nights in a classroom and one day on the water.
Lake Texoma is also thought to be the "Playground of the Southwest." The lake offers a multitude of amenities for most anyone who enjoys the great outdoors. The Corps of Engineers alone offers 10 different campgrounds with the total number of individual campsites reaching well over 600. Also available are 40 miles of equestrian trails that are enjoyed by hundreds each year and the scenic Cross Timbers hiking trail, a very popular trail that winds for 14 miles above the lake on rocky ledges and through blackjack woodland. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy the two national wildlife refuges that have locations in both Oklahoma and Texas. Each year thousands of canada and snow geese, various shorebirds, several species of ducks and bald eagles migrate to both the Hagerman and Tishomingo refuges. While deer, wild turkey and other native animals make their home year round on the some 30,000 acres that make up these two areas.
